While I know Homestuck has played with the emotions of many and I regularly get posts on my dash like, “Last update: RIGHT IN THE FEELS,” I never got those same feelings? Occasionally, I’d think, “Oh, that’s sad. :c” but I’ve never screamed, “AAAAHH, FUCK YOU HUSSIE. ;A;” into the night as some character experienced something horrible and heart wrenching.
When Scratch died and Jack/Spades started showing up much less often, I didn’t have a character I had any strong feelings for, since they were my favorites. I’m ambivalent towards Jane and Jake, I like Roxy well enough, and Dirk’s pretty cool I guess, but if anything awful happened to any of them, at most, I’d respond with, “Oh, that’s a shame. :c”
But ever since the Calmasis poster appeared, I wanted to know everything about that guy/lass. I thought UU was adorable since the first day she appeared in a Pesterlog and really looked forward to her reveal BUT THEN THAT HAPPENED.

Honestly, this is the first time I’ve felt so heartbroken over a character, I can’t even describe what I’m feeling. GOD, CALLIOPE, LET ME LOVE YOU. ;A; Now I’m going to continue reading with the only hope that things turn out well for her and that she’s happy one day. Jake and Jane could get themselves torn to shreds by the Red Miles for all I care, as long as Calliope can be a content little cherub! (but then again, she’s so fond of those two, so now they have to live for the sake of her happiness)
Because that was probably one of the cruelest things you could do to a character, let alone two, Hussie.
Out of all Homestuck panels, that one was the most horrific, in my opinion. Even worse than all of Bec Noir’s slaughterfests or any Horrorterror sequences.
So I was wondering why this really minor boring post was getting so many reblogs:
And apparently it’s because after a while some jokers started reblogging it while changing the original message? So the appearance to the casual tumblr user scrolling through their feed is that I made a dumb post about dicks or memes or whatever.
And of course because they see it on their dash people BELIEVE I made that inane original post without question and think, omg look at this weird outrageous thing Hussie said, and then THEY reblog it, and so on.
You can verify whether the original author actually said what was reblogged by clicking on their name, but really, who on tumblr is ACTUALLY going to do that? This is not the most deeply inquiring, skeptical crowd we’re talking about. Tumblr users are essentially scrolling junkies. Next post next post next post ha ha “like” next next “ooh gonna reblog that” nextnextnextnext.
I can’t change people’s behavior and I’m not telling people to stop this. Talk about a losing battle. I guess this is mostly addressed to the people who run tumblr, assuming they actually give a shit. Why even allow this nonsense through the design of your system? How hard would it be to code a stipulation that if the original content was changed by a reblogger, huge red text appeared over their post saying something like “THE CONTENT OF THE ORIGINAL POST HAS BEEN EDITED. YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK THE AUTHOR’S SITE TO VERIFY.” Hey I know the answer: not hard at all.
Or maybe they don’t care about whether their social media site has the potential to be taken seriously as a means of distributing information by people or groups who give half a fuck about the authenticity of their widely proliferated messages. Maybe they’re fine with the whole thing deteriorating into incoherent memetic entropy that people can only tolerate if they’re really jonesing to banter about Doctor Who. Or is that what tumblr already is? Hey, maybe this is one reason why!!!
Seriously tempted to stop using tumblr because of this. If counterfeit reblogging is going to turn into a “thing” why should I bother blogging anything at all?
Knock this shit off, guys. I didn’t see any edits of the original post on my dash, but to those who think this is cute: stop it. I’m very happy with how quickly Hussie can get information around via tumblr, and I’m sure none of us want to see him quit over something as asinine as this.
I sure hope Hussie isn’t under the impression all of us are stupid enough to fall for those edits…
I’m not sure if anyone’s said this yet, but after reading this tidbit in the last pesterlog…
UU: really, as if my dreadfUl nap were not bad enoUgh, i woke Up to find my coplayer has made a terrible mess in here.
UU: bUt the good news is he has at least agreed to play with me once and for all. some people make nothing easy.
GG: That’s good.
GG: But wait…
GG: I thought you said you’ve never met him?
UU: Um.
UU: i haven’t!
UU: not in person.
GG: Then how did he make a mess in there?
GG: Did he break into your room while you were asleep?
UU: oh, yes, well, hmm.
UU: the thing with that is this.
UU: the thing with that is that we shoUld talk aboUt something else!
I think uranianUmbra and undyingUmbrage are the same person. It’s either a multiple personality disorder or two souls trapped in the same body. They’ve got the same abridged Pesterchum and somehow, undyingUmbrage is close enough to mess up uraniumUmbra’s room without actually meeting her (‘cause you can’t meet someone in person if you share the same body!). While uranianUmbra is asleep, undyingUmbrage is awake and vice versa. This is how they share control of the body.
On top of that, Calmasis was an androgynous hero. This would allow the body to adequately house a feminine and masculine personality.
uraniumUmbra also mentioned she’s being grumpy or becoming grumpy. Could this be the undyingUmbrage personality trying to surface?
What do ya’ll think?
It’s not like this is a big deal, or that I really care much about it at all, but it can be kind of ridiculous the extent to which people posting panels of latest updates can spoil the outcome for those who haven’t QUITE gotten around to checking the updates themselves yet.
Like an update that consists of 5 pages, with something surprising happening on the 5th page. Guess which panel invariably shows up on everyone’s dash, blowing the surprise without context or build-up!
Again I don’t really care and this is the kind of thing that nobody could ever really prevent from happening and it would be stupid to try. This is just something I’ve observed.
Maybe there is an unspoken etiquette that some people follow, holding off on posting the surprising images for a little while, until most people have seen it? I’m not sure. It’s something to consider, but I ain’t gonna be super mad if you don’t.
Yes. Thank you for bringing this to the Tumblr community’s attention, Hussie.
I’ve had so many of the buildups and surprises ruined for me because I can’t read an update the very second it’s released. It’s not a big deal, but since Homestuck is so full of twists and reveals, much of the enjoyment I get when reading the comic is sapped because three different people I follow have already posted the surprise panel. It’s just courteous to wait at least a few hours before posting the new panel(s), you know?
So, I’m sure this has been pointed out already (probably several times), but I haven’t seen anything about it on my dash.
I remember much speculation about the nice troll(?) speaking with Jane and Jake bearing the sign of Ophiuchus, but I’ll bet that person has something to do with Calmasis…
And in case there was any doubt that uranianUmbra is/is related to Calmasis.
Ah, I didn’t notice this when you first posted it, but I noticed back when the Calmasis updates happened that somewhere, either on the MSPA wiki or the MSPA forums, someone had pointed out that the wizard fiction Rose was writing was sort of her subconscious retelling the tale of the creation of their universe, what with the twelve disciples representing the trolls. In that one chunk of The Complacency of the Learned that we saw back in…whenever it was that Dave alchemized Rose’s journal, we saw there was something about the wizards worrying about their twelve disciples betraying them, but they said that that was unthinkable, and the disciples had been carefully chosen and blah blah they would never think of doing something like kill one of the wizards.
In this Scratched Universe, we have UU, a thirteenth troll. And in the Complacency of the Learned, we have Calmasis, a thirteenth disciple, who’s rallied the other twelve disciples into rebelling against their masters, and taking them down one by one.
So, what significance does this have on the plot of Homestuck? I’unno. *shruggot*
In which case, I am very curious as to how Rose learned about the 13th troll in order to include them in her book…

So me and oneirogenic worked on a Hemospectrum chart for our own reference and I figured I’d make it presentable and share it. So okay, here’s the details:
This is, from my perspective, the best way to have slight variation in troll blood colors, with still keeping to canon. Hussie says there are 12 blood colors, including Lime. Then you have Karkat as a 13th, mutant blood color. There are technically 12 colors + potential mutant variations listed here. There are just different shades.
MOST of the Troll’s marked colors were taken from comic panels. However, some were shifted slightly warmer or cooler so the spectrum would actually function more like, well, a spectrum. Not to mention the fact that the blood colors of the trolls do change between different panels (which is expected). So think of them as close-as-possible estimates.
Sollux’s blood color, for example, is technically cooler than is shown here, and Nepeta’s is technically very slightly warmer, however, in order to fit in Lime Bloods, I had to shift theirs very slightly in different directions.
Since the canon blood colors we have to work off of fell into a specific range, that’s where we marked off the spectrum for color picking. All of the trolls easily fell into the lightest lights, the mid range, or the darkest darks. Because the hue of each Troll’s blood color fell neatly in this selected range, but many had different shades, I decided to set this up with the three steps for three possible shades of each hue.So that’s why I have three shades of each color. I like to think that trolls would only have the 12 basic colors, but depending on the troll itself, your colors vary slightly between light or dark.
The mutant blood colors are taken from each color in the spectrum, and shifted to the highest saturation, like Karkat’s. No clue if these colors could exist in canon, but I stuck them in anyway to balance the chart. You probably don’t wanna give your Fantroll mutant blood, though.
Dots obviously mark where each Troll fits into this chart. And that’s about it! Other than that, I had a lot of fun making this because I love colors. And now I’m gonna use this to make all of the fantrolls. All of them.
Take note, tumblr! You CAN have headcanons about troll bloodcolor without dissing everyone else’s or calling other people stupid! WooOoOoaaaAaaaaAAhhh~
This is a cool theory, I like it.
i like this!!!
I’ve refrained from making a fan troll, since I don’t exactly know what to do with them and I don’t want to make a stupid character, but seeing this chart tempts me.
